Surgeries

Bariatric surgeons first began to recognize the potential for surgical weight loss while performing operations that required the removal of large segments of a patient's stomach and intestine. After the surgery, doctors noticed that in many cases patients were unable to maintain their pre-surgical weight. With further study, bariatric surgeons were able to recommend similar modifications that could be safely used to produce weight loss in morbidly obese patients. Over the last decade these procedures have been continually refined in order to improve results and minimize risks. Our bariatric surgeons have access to a substantial body of clinical data to help them determine which weight loss surgeries should be used and why.

Diagnostics

CT Scanner - Physicians often use CT scans to noninvasively diagnose medical problems that aren’t easily detectable from normal physical examinations. The CT scanner allows radiologists to simultaneously capture  wafer-thin images of the desired area within seconds producing three-dimensional visualizations of internal organs and structures. This scanner makes exams more comfortable for patients because the test is completed faster thus reducing the patient’s exposure time to radiation. Doctors can review results almost immediately because the scanner produces digital images instead of film.

Cystoscopy - Assessing the interior surfaces of the urinary bladder via the urethra with a cystoscope is called cystoscopy. Diagnostic cystoscopy is usually carried out with local anesthesia. General anesthesia is sometimes used for operative cystoscopic procedures.

Colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the large colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It may provide a visual diagnosis (e.g. ulceration, polyps) and grants the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.

Endoscopy is the inspection of body organs or cavities using a flexible, lighted tube called an endoscope.

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique commonly used by physicians to obtain real-time images of the internal structures of a patient through the use of a fluoroscope. In its simplest form, a fluoroscope consists of an x-ray source and fluorescent screen between which a patient is placed.

Ultrasound is an imaging method in which high-frequency sound waves are used to outline a part of the body. The sound wave echoes are picked up and displayed on a television screen. It is also called ultrasonography.

X-Rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength in the range of 10 to 0.01 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 PHz to 30 EHz. X-rays are primarily used for diagnostic radiography and crystallography.
